Sonia Friedman will executive produce The Dresser for BBC Two

The Dresser will be executive produced by Sonia Friedman for Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender for Playground Entertainment and Ben Stephenson for the BBC. Sir Richard Eyre will direct the evocative portrait of theatre life backstage, commissioned by BBC Drama and BBC Arts for BBC Two.

Inspired by Ronald Harwood’s own experiences as dresser to distinguished actor-manager Sir Donald Wolfit and set against the backdrop of World War II. The play explores the tempestuous relationship between ailing actor-manager 'Sir' (Anthony Hopkins) who runs a troupe of traveling Shakespearean players and his devoted dresser Norman (Ian McKellen) as they struggle to hold together their touring company.
